Building advice

Renovation or extension: which is right for your property?

Adding space isn't always the answer. How to decide between reworking what you have and building more.

Adding space isn't always the answer. How to decide between reworking what you have and building more.

Start with the layout, not the footprint

A surprising number of properties have enough floor area but a poor arrangement. Removing a wall, relocating a stair or reworking a hallway can deliver most of what an extension would, at lower cost and in less time.

When extending makes sense

If the ground floor genuinely cannot accommodate the way the household lives, or a bedroom is needed, extending is the right route. Kitchen and dining space is the most common driver.

Doing both

Most of the extension projects we build include internal remodelling of the existing house. Treating them as one project avoids paying twice for scaffolding, plastering and decoration.
